Fun Facts!

Tawny Frogmouths (Podargus strigoides) are big-headed stocky birds often mistaken for owls due to their nocturnal habits and similar colouring, but it is actually its own distinct species!

The Tawny Frogmouth measures around 13-21 inches in height with a wingspan of 2-3 feet.

They mate for life, reported to 'grieve' when their partner dies.

If they feel threatened they will crane their necks and point their beaks towards the sky. This gives them the appearance of a broken branch, especially with their plumage. Predators often fall for the ruse.
