Even though Snowy Owls live in the snow, they never get cold feet! This is due to the thick feathers and pads on their feet. These act like snowshoes to prevent their feet slipping too far into the snow
The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) is also known as the Arctic Owl or Polar Owl, this is because they live in the very cold climates of the Arctic tundra.
They have a vast number of feathers which help to keep them warm but make them very heavy.
They are not a nocturnal owl; they are able to hunt both day and night depending on where they are and the prey they are hunting.
Male and female Snowy Owls look very different. The male is very pale whereas the female has brown markings.
