Facts

The Silkie (Gallus gallus domesticus) is a very popular breed of ornamental chicken- first originating from the Far East, being documented as 'furry chickens' in the travel writings of Marco Polo.

They are very docile and very caring of their young- making them very good for domestic use or even as children's pets! They come in a wide variety, including bearded, white and blue. They vary drastically in their sizes, with the males averaging a weight from 600g to 1kg and the females ranging from 500g to 900g.
