Educational Visits

A great day out for the kids

We have been welcoming school trips and educational visits since we opened the doors in May 1997 and are able to offer a variety of packages which can be tailored to meet your individual requirements.

Whitehouse Farm Centre is a 40-acre visitor farm attraction. The visitor centre is extensive, housing a wide variety of animals from traditional farm breeds to small animals, pets and exotic species. In 2008 the centre diversified and holds a zoo licence enabling our collection of animals to grow. We are accredited under the Countryside Educational Visits Accreditation Scheme (CEVAS) which endorses our school visits as being to a high standard in terms of educational content, quality, health and safety. We recommend a free pre visit for teachers, by prior appointment.

Our teams aim is to provide unique educational opportunities for children and adults, where they can handle, feed and learn about a wide variety of animals, in a farm environment.

Our team will plan and organise your whole day.

  • Food for all children to feed the animals.
  • Tractor and trailer ride around the centre.
  • Use of our indoor multi-level soft play “The Farmers Den” and all outdoor recreation areas.
  • Included in your pack is a discount voucher for each child for a free return visit.
  • A knowledgeable guide is provided for the duration of your visit. All our school guides are carefully selected, fully trained and adhere to a strict code of conduct.

We have a range of undercover facilities in case of wet weather (small animals, large animals, soft play, events barn, sand play within picnic barn and café.) The centre welcomes picnickers offering indoor heated picnic facilities as well as outdoor picnic areas for use in warmer weather. We operate a no smoking policy within all buildings and outdoor areas of the centre. The centre has excellent hand washing facilities throughout the farm environment including hand washing stations located at key points around the centre.

Picnic packages are available from our café upon request.

Souvenir goody bags available to order from our farm gift shop. Prices start from £1.00 per bag.

Here at Whitehouse Farm Centre the safety and welfare of our visitors is paramount. Should you have any questions regarding Health and Safety or Welfare, please contact our team. For contact details see our Contact Us page.

A copy of our risk assessment for school visits can be downloaded from our website or a copy can be posted out to you upon request.

Educational resources for teachers can be found via the internet including worksheets, pre and post visit lesson plans, and information packs. Please use the links provided in the Useful Websites section. Alternatively visit www.farmsforschools.org.uk. or www.face-online.co.uk.

There may be help available to fund your visit. Contact your head teacher as funds are made available to them for non – classroom based educational visits. It may also be worth contacting your local LEA who may be able to offer advice. Also available in most libraries is “Directory of Grant Making Trusts” which offers advice concerning grants and funding.
