Males are argumentative and aggressive and can often be seen ramming other males. They croak, grunt and even whistle. Males are that aggressive that from the moment they hatch out of their eggs, they try flipping their siblings on to their backs.
The Sulcata Tortoise (Centrochelys sulcata) is the third largest species of tortoise in the world. Only the Galapagos Tortoise and the Aldabra Giant Tortoise are bigger.
They are capable of going weeks without food and water. When they do find it, boy can they drink - consuming up to 15% of their bodyweight.
They are also known as the African Spurred Tortoise.
Females can grow up to 50cm in length, weighing about 60kg.
The males can grow up to 80cm in length and weigh a whopping 100kg (that's 100 bags of sugar!!)
